Your next journey may look a little different, but you can still expect an easy, convenient and safe experience at BHM. It’s time to fly, Birmingham. Let’s Go!

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is committed to protecting passengers and airport workers and limiting the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of our passengers, visitors, and staff continues to be our top priority. We are doing our part to keep the airport clean to provide a safe environment for travel. When you are ready to travel, we are ready for you.

What BHM is doing to keep passengers and employees safe:

  • Around-the-clock cleaning and sanitation throughout the terminal with EPA-approved cleaning solutions making sure high “touch-point” areas such as handrails, elevator buttons, and seating areas are properly cleansed.
  • Deep cleanings and sanitation of the terminal occur each night with electrostatic spray technology. A professional cleaning company is also on call to be available to assist our staff with deeper cleanings as needed.
  • Hand sanitizer stations are installed throughout the terminal for both passengers and employees.
  • Signage has been added in the terminal with information on how to reduce the spread of illness.
  • Acrylic shields have been installed at all public counters.
  • Social distancing floor markers have been installed in passenger queuing areas.

What travelers can do to travel safely + helpful tips to remember:

  • Maintain distance from others when possible.
  • Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer.
  • Arrive at least 90 minutes prior to the scheduled flight departure.
  • Know your airline’s travel requirements before coming to the airport as guidelines can vary by airline.
  • Use technology whenever possible to reduce touchpoints such as mobile-boarding and paying with your smart phone.
  • Be familiar with TSA’s new procedures such as scanning your own boarding pass, placing food in a separate bin, and placing items from your pockets directly into your carry-on bag to reduce touchpoints.

Airlines / Flight Status:
Airlines at BHM continue to restore flight schedules to near pre-Covid levels. Passengers should contact their airline directly about flight status or changes to their schedule. Airlines handle all aspects of ticketing and scheduling. For a list of nonstop destinations served by airlines at BHM, visit the Flight Information page.

The airlines have implemented significant operational changes to keep passengers and airline workers safe.

TSA is allowing passengers to bring liquid hand sanitizer containers up to 12 ounces in carry-on bags until further notice. Other changes and recommendations include placing items such as belts, wallets, keys and phones directly into carry-on bags instead of into the bins to reduce touch-points during the screening process.
