Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport Expands Accessibility with Aira Partnership

Media Invited to see Demonstration

 

BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 19, 2025)- The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) invites members of the media to join us for a brief staff training and demonstration of how travelers are gaining independence at the airport. BHM has partnered with Aira to give travelers who are visually impaired or deaf or hard of hearing equal access to communication.

Aira is an app-based service that provides live, trained interpreters through a mobile phone. The services are free to travelers when they are at the airport.

Members of the media who’d like to see how it all works are welcome to join us for the training session and demonstration:
