Airport Takes Big Step in Parking Modernization Plan

Board Selects New Operator to Create Premium Valet Parking Experience

BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 17, 2025) – The Birmingham Airport Authority (BAA) Board has taken a significant step toward revamping the parking experience for travelers. In a unanimous vote, Board Members selected LAZ Parking to take over the popular valet parking program at BirminghamShuttlesworth International Airport (BHM). The company was selected following a rigorous public process that involved nine companies vying to provide the service in Birmingham.

“We are determined to make valet parking something our customers look forward to when coming to the airport,” said Ashby Pate, Board Chair of the BAA. “This new partnership is built on the premise that valet customers expect premium service and that’s what we plan to deliver,” said Pate.

The Board approved a five-year concession agreement with LAZ Parking that will improve the guest experience, minimize wait times, and greatly enhance the communication between valets, drivers, security, and guests. LAZ Parking has also committed to creating a Customer Care Call Center and will conduct a survey of customers to find out what additional services they would like to see added to their valet experience. This could include premium services like carwashes, detailing and even taking care of dry cleaning for travelers while they’re away.

About LAZ Parking

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because LAZ currently manages parking services at more than twenty locations in the Birmingham area. LAZ operates parking, transportation, and mobility services at more than 5,300 locations across North America, which includes forty-four airports.

“On behalf of the LAZ Parking Birmingham team, we are thrilled and humbled to be selected by the Birmingham Airport Authority to provide airport customers with excellent valet customer service and an NEWS RELEASE improved reservation system,” said Alexander Di Benedetto, Regional Vice President of LAZ Parking. “Between our strong local infrastructure and our national expertise, we are confident and eager to get started with making an immediate impact to the overall valet service experience.”

Parking is a critical part of the customer experience at BHM. Earlier this year, the BAA embarked on a plan to modernize parking at BHM and to ensure top notch parking choices and capacity for visitors well into the future. The new valet partnership is a crucial step in that process. As part of the overall modernization, customers will see innovative technology coming in the months ahead that will speed things up when entering and exiting parking lots at the airport.

LAZ will begin immediately working with the BAA team to build an online reservation system for the new valet service and to prepare to take over the program in early November.
