Strong Passenger Growth Continues at BHM Airport

Birmingham, AL – The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) continues to experience strong growth in passenger traffic with January hitting a new record. BHM served 224,012 passengers last month, which is almost 16 percent more passengers than January of last year. The Birmingham Airport Authority attributes this growth to its partnership with the airlines at BHM and their willingness to add more seats and flights from the Birmingham community, which was well received by college football fans this past season.

“This growth is a direct result of the Birmingham community creating demand for the airlines by making BHM their airport of choice when flying to their game day destinations,” said Sylvester Lavender, Birmingham Airport Authority’s Interim President and CEO. “We anticipate our passenger numbers to continue to rise throughout the year as more routes and flights will be added for both business and leisure travelers.

BHM enjoyed a positive year of growth in 2018 serving more than 2.9 million passengers, which is a 10 percent increase compared to the 2.7 million passengers that passed through BHM in 2017.
