Driving Directions

The bridges along Interstate 59/20 through downtown Birmingham will be closed beginning January 21, 2019 for 14 months. This will affect eastbound travelers coming to the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) encourages drivers to take Interstate 459 as a recommended alternative route to avoid the Central Business District closure. ALDOT has posted detours and will continue to post updates throughout construction at https://5920bridge.com.
