BHM Holiday Traditions Take Off in the Magic City

Travel Tips to Help Along the Way

‘Tis the season for busy travel and holiday cheer. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is prepared to welcome travelers from across the nation for the Christmas holiday season. From illuminating Christmas trees and décor to festive holiday entertainment, the Birmingham Airport Authority is creating an unforgettable holiday experience for travelers.  As always, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, pack smart, and arrive early.

Plan Ahead

  • Check with your airline for any schedule changes before arriving at the airport and sign up for flight status alerts.
  • Dress for TSA screening avoiding items like bulky jewelry or large belts since these types of items can require additional screening.

Pack Smart

  • Unpack your bag to start with an empty bag to avoid bringing items to the airport that are prohibited past the security checkpoint. Review TSA’s prohibited items list for both carry-on and checked baggage.
  • Wrapped presents are not prohibited, however, TSA encourages travelers to keep presents unwrapped in case an item needs to be inspected.

Arrive Early

  • Arrive at least two hours prior to departure to allow plenty of time to get to the gate.
  • Dine, shop, relax and enjoy all of the amenities at BHM along with the sounds of the season through holiday entertainment.

Beginning Friday, December 13th, BHM’s holiday entertainment series will officially kick off with musical performances by community groups and local musicians to help alleviate stress by adding a little holiday magic. Some of the performances include jazzy tunes by The Connection Trio, harp melodies by Marsha Gunter, Christmas carols by Hewitt Trussville Chamber Choir, a ballet performance from Westwood Ballet and a pop-up concert from the Alabama Symphony Orchestra On-the-Go Series.
