Air Traffic Takes off at BHM – 3 Million Served in 2019

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) continues to grow, serving more passengers in 2019 than the previous year. BHM served 3,090,604 passengers in 2019, totaling more than 117,828 passengers served in 2018. The 2019 total represents nearly a 4% increase over 2018, which also saw an increase over 2016 and 2017 passenger traffic.

“The Birmingham Airport Authority attributes the increase in enplanements to the economy doing well, said Ronald Mathieu, Birmingham Airport Authority’s President and CEO. “When the city and state economy thrive, the airport typically benefits as a result by seeing an increase in travelers using air transportation.”

BHM is known to be an easy and convenient airport for travelers to access the world (nearly 400 unique destinations) with as little as one stop. About nine out of ten passengers (93%) are satisfied with their experience at BHM, according to a customer satisfaction survey conducted in August 2019.
