5 Ways How BHM and Our Partners Are Keeping You Safe!
The safety and wellbeing of passengers and airport workers is a top priority for Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM). It is important to the Birmingham Airport Authority and our airport partners that passengers have a safe and health journey and feel confident in resuming travel. BHM is committed to providing a safe environment for all who travel and visit our airport. Here are a few ways that we are working together with our partners to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 during air travel.
Around the clock cleaning
At BHM, we are sanitizing all high touch areas and surfaces around the clock to stop the spread of germs. At night, we are utilizing electrostatic spray technology to help with deep cleaning and sanitation of the terminal. Alongside our rigorous, routine cleaning of the terminal, our airline partners are implementing enhanced, multi-layered cleaning procedures on their aircraft making sure that the high-touch and public areas like tray tables, seatbelt buckles, armrests, window shades, overhead bin handles and lavatories continue to be cleaned before each flight.
Addition of Distance Markers and Acrylic Shields
Throughout the terminal, you may recognize small markers on the floor to encourage proper physical distance between passengers waiting in line at ticket counters, the TSA checkpoint and in the concession areas. The signage encourages passengers to maintain at least six feet of separation between themselves and other travelers.
As a multi-layered approach to health and safety, acrylic shields have been installed at all public counters. This protective barrier is an added protection for both our employees and our passengers.
Installation of Hand Sanitizer Dispensers
We have installed hand sanitizer dispensers around the terminal in high traffic areas such as the ticketing lobbies, food courts, security checkpoint and baggage claim to help keep hands clean. All machines are touchless and are constantly refilled to make sure that all our passengers and airport workers always have access to hand sanitizer to help us maintain a healthy environment.
Hand washing is one of the key tips that the CDC has recommended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases. At BHM, we are keeping our restrooms cleaned and we are making sure that hand soap and paper towels are fully stocked at all times to provide our passengers and airport workers the proper resources to protect themselves and other travelers.
All of the airlines operating at BHM have adopted policies that require employees and passengers to wear face coverings for air travel. BHM also recommends that all travelers wear a face covering at the airport, in accordance with the state-wide mask order and CDC guidance to stop the spread of viruses like COVID-19. Passengers are encouraged to review all of their airline’s safety updates and procedures before travel.
