Operations Supervisor

Assists the Director of Operations and the Operations Manager in coordinating operations at Birmingham Airport on a 24-hour basis. Responsible for complying with TSA security directives, responding to emergencies, inspecting and monitoring all airfield activities concerned with involving construction, maintenance, and operation of the airport facilities in accordance with federal regulations


Essential Tasks

Responsible for decision-making of the day to day operational issues occurring on the shifts and adhering to operational procedures

Maintains operational control during aircraft/airfield emergencies by providing incident management through coordination with emergency response units, tenants, and responding agency's command centers

Communicates with other supervisors and operations specialists by using two-way radio and telephones

Supervises operations specialist by training, communicating policies, disciplining, scheduling, and evaluating

Completes such reports as incident/medical reports, wildlife strikes, and airfield inspections, during shift and manually files reports

Maintains the Authority's compliance with federal regulations by reviewing technical manuals and staying abreast of law changes, and making recommendations for policy and procedural changes or additions

Directly supervises 17 Operations Specialists. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems that occur on the shift


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' Degree from a four-year college or university
  • Two or more years experience in airport management and/or operations
  • Experience supervising 15 or more employees in a multi-faceted task environment.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver's License
  • Must pass extensive federal background check
  • Must be able to work a rotating schedule including shifts and weekends
