Operations Specialist

 

Minimum Qualifications:
(Must meet minimum qualifications to be considered)

  • High School Diploma or bona fide GED certificate
  • One (1) year security experience with public contact and/or two (2) years airport experience with public contact
  • Ability to work various shifts
  • Basic computer keyboard and/or typing experience and/or training
  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License
  • This position will require an in depth background investigation

Basic Functions

Provides high profile security and traffic management for The Birmingham Airport by maintaining a 24 hour surveillance operations center, directing vehicles on the terminal drive, responding to emergency calls, contacting appropriate emergency staff, fire, police, and/or FAA personnel, assisting in enforcement of airfield security, responding to security breeches, and controlling access to secure areas.

Provides surveillance of airport property by observing CCTV monitors, monitoring the fire alarm system and by patrolling the property.

Directs traffic to enhance smooth traffic flow on airport terminal drive, to reduce driver confusion and to respond to inquiries. Ensures adequate manpower for traffic control by requesting law enforcement support for traffic control, as needed.

Controls access to restricted areas by checking identification and clearance list through computer software, responds to access control system alarms, conducts preliminary investigations as to cause; referring to law enforcement officials, as needed; and making reports. Produces security badges through the use of the computers.

Assist in securing the aircraft apron by escorting non-airport vehicles into secure areas and by controlling airfield gates by contractors and vendors. Spot checks secure areas for breeches by patrolling airfield perimeter to inspect fences, hangars and building, by patrolling tenant fences, hangers and building, and by identification card requirement.

Initiates and coordinates emergency response for the Authority by identifying the appropriate agency or department to contact, making the call and providing clear and accurate information. Provides first hand reports on airfield incidents to ensure more accurate and efficient response by responding units. Specialist assists in inspections of runways/taxiways after emergency incidents.

Acts as an information liaison between among the public, tenants, and Authority staff by giving messages via telephone and paging on the public address system.

Controls access to keys by listing in the appropriate log when they are released and/or returned. Maintains a daily activity record by filling in logbook, filing incident reports.
