BHM trends upward 16% over April 2017

Birmingham, Al –The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) continues to see a positive trend in passenger traffic.  In April, the airport welcomed over 247,000 guests, which is over 65,000 more than in April of 2017.   Every airline serving the Birmingham region experienced passenger growth for April.

Delta Airlines had 33% of the passenger traffic, closely followed by Southwest with 29%, and not far behind was American Airlines at 24%.  April was also the month in which the ultra-low-cost carrier, Frontier Airlines, launched service to Denver, Philadelphia, and Orlando at BHM.

“The real purpose of an airport is to serve as that community’s main economic development tool to attract business and drive jobs,” said BHM Interim President and CEO Miguel Southwell.  “Working together with Birmingham’s and Alabama’s economic development partners to drive new air service to key, underserved cities remains a top priority for Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.”

BHM is Alabama’s largest airport regarding passenger traffic.  Five airlines currently serve the Birmingham region with over 160 daily flights to 18 airports in 15 cities.
